Stitch Fix #2

Time for another box from Stitch Fix!  If you haven’t heard of Stitch Fix before, check out my first experience with them.

I received another 5 items on Friday and tried them all on Sunday night.  When I opened the box at work on Friday I was super excited about a few of the items.

Item #1 – Zebra Printed Top

Pros – Fit well, print was fun, can be dressy or casual

Cons – The fabric!  It’s 100% viscose which I’m trying to purge from my closet.  In fact, I had a shirt by this exact same brand that pilled up after two wearings.

Item #2 – Silver necklace

stitch_fix_2 006

Pros – Unique style, good length

Cons – Price.  This was more than I’d typically spend on a silver necklace for myself.  Also, I have a lot of silver necklaces that hit at my collarbone.

Item #3 – Silk shirtdress

Pros – I liked the color.  Sleeves were the right length.

Cons – Shape and length!  This was WAYYYY too short!  Also, it just looks like a pajama top to me.  Also, the price was too high (over $100) for me.

Item #4 – Gray cardigan

stitch_fix_2 021

stitch_fix_2 023stitch_fix_2 026

Pros – Comfy. back had a unique eyelet pattern

Cons – A little too small and the shape of the bottom just accentuated my hips a bit too much.  I didn’t love it for the price.

Item #5 – Black and brown dress

Pros – I LOVED LOVED LOVED the style of this dress.  The black sheath dress with the brown accents was love at first sight when I pulled it out of the box.  The price was awesome, too.

Cons – It was WAY too small!  The picture of the back is to demonstrate that I couldn’t zip it up any further.  It just wouldn’t fit around my ribcage and it was a bit too tight at my hips.

So, sadly, I’m not keeping anything from this Fix.  But I’ve ordered another one for May because it’s just so fun!  And for only $20 I feel like I’m getting a deal on the shipping.  If you want to try it you can click here to request an invite. It’s a great way to get exposed to things you never would have picked up in the store.  Even though I’m not keeping any of these items I actually got some great ideas for future outfits just by trying this stuff on!

Cardigan, top, and pants – The Limited

Shoes – 6pm.com

This year is all about going out of my comfort zone in terms of colors.  Last year I bought a gold sequined dress even though I rarely wear gold.  And then I saw a photo online that made me crave more gold.  When I saw this gold tank top on the clearance rack at The Limited I knew I had to have it.

So, this is my interpretation of the outfit above.  I have a few other ideas for this gold top as well.  But all of this means one other thing:  I need to actually buy some gold jewelry!!
Do you prefer gold or silver?

Top – Old Navy

Cardigan – Nordstrom Rack

Pants – Express

Shoes – Lucky Brand via Marshall’s

So, the green pants won the poll but I couldn’t leave the second place leopard print shirt out in the cold.  Which means it got to be paired with the green pants on day 3!  Leopard and green is another fun combination that people don’t always think about.

Well, there you have it.  One pair of green pants worn three different ways.

Day 2 of my one piece, 3 ways challenge with the green pants.  Navy and green are a great combination so it was a given that I would eventually pair this top with these pants.  I also think it gives the pants a toned down yet fun vibe.  I paired it with the silver boat shoes to make the dressier pants feel more casual.  I hope to own my own pair of metallic boat shoes soon!

And the winner in the One Piece, Three Days challenge was the green pants!

Unfortunately, our weather in Chicago today is pretty chilly so cropped pants with cute flats, sandals or strappy heels was just not going to cut it.  So, I employed my usual fix for cropped pants in chilly weather:  knee high boots!  This is a great way to extend the wearability of cropped pants when you live in a climate that isn’t warm enough to wear them alone year-round.

Also, if you’re feeling gun shy about colored pants green is probably a good color to start with.  It’s not as bright as red or orange but it’s still fun.  Pair it with a neutral colored top like black, navy or white and you’ll be good to go!

BONUS: I attended the Dots spring and summer launch party last night and took some pics of the outfits I created.  I’ll do a full recap when the professional photos are released but until then check out my album on my Facebook page!

Blazer – Express

Dress – The Limited

Necklace – NY & Co

Earrings – ????

Stripes and polka dots?  Black and navy?  What am I thinking?

I’m thinking that ever since I picked up this dress off The Limited’s clearance rack (seriously, I got it for like $25 with a coupon) I’ve been wanting to wear it with this blazer.  Even though one is black and one is navy.  Something about the scale of the stripes and the scale of the polka dots was just calling to be paired together.

I also thought about wearing this dress with my white blazer, my black blazer or even my cobalt blue blazer.  But I just kept coming back to the stripes.  So, here we are.  What do you think?

Also, today is the last day to vote for which piece you want to see styled three different ways!  So far the green pants are winning so if you feel strongly about leopard or pink gingham you’d better cast your vote quickly.

Blazer – Forever 21

Top – Old Navy

Necklace – Gordman’s

Pants – Gap

Shoes – Nine West

Whew!  Today has been a busy, busy day.  It’s also been a gray rainy day so I’m glad I wore my bright pants to help take some of the gray out of it.  I noticed on the train to work this morning that everyone was wearing black but me.

Just a few short months ago I was in a black-pants rut.  I wore black pants almost every day.  Now I still wear a lot of dark colors but I’m slowly branching out.

When’s the last time you wore something bright?

P.S. I suppose if I’m going to be taking close ups of my shoes this summer I should invest in a pedicure so I don’t subject you all to my nasty runner’s feet, huh?

Nicer Than Expected

Dress & Cardigan – Nordstrom Rack

Belt & Hose – Target

Shoes – Tahari via TJ Maxx

Due to a nicer than expected day I was able to get outside for lunch with my friend Kim.  Thanks to her and the help of a random guy taking pictures outside the Art Institute I was able to get photos taken somewhere other than my office!

I spent most of our lunch outside bundled up in my jacket but when I took it off for the photos I realized that it was much warmer outside than I thought.

This dress was an unexpected find as well.  I bought it on the clearance rack last year on a whim.  It was a little more than I usually spend but it’s proven to be the perfect dress for many occasions.

What nicer than expected thing has happened to you lately?

P.S.  Don’t forget to vote on what piece you want to see me style three different ways!

One Piece | Three Days

One of my own personal challenges is to break out of the rut of always wearing the same shirt with the same pants with the same shoes with the same…well, you get the point.

Which is why this challenge seems right up my alley!

So, readers, I ask you:  What piece should I pick to style three different ways?

striped_blazer 004_small pink_checks_hm_19-95-8x6
ON_leopard_$17_caption red_pants_green_pants 014_small

Alternately, you can can suggest something!  Maybe you’d rather see my red pants again.  Or perhaps there’s a color or pattern you think I should work with.  Let me know!

Note: If you’re viewing this through a reader you might have to click through to see the poll below.

Do you want to take this challenge with me?  Go for it!  Why not try it and post your photos on my Facebook page?

Top, Scarf & Tights – The Limited

Skirt – Banana Republic

Shoes – Tahari via TJ Maxx

Monday.  Some Mondays are easier than others.  Today is not one of those easy ones.  Sure, the sun is shining but it’s still cold outside!  Where is my warm spring weather???

I originally had on gray pants with this top and scarf but I just wasn’t feeling it.  So out came the skirt and tights at the last minute.  It occurred to me as I walked out the door that a belt would take this outfit up one more level but it was too late at that point.

Definitely Monday.

On the bright side, I’m doing a fun challenge this weekend.  I’ll be posting about that later this week and asking for some reader participation so stay tuned!
